In Plain S.I.G.H.T.

For those of you who don’t know, I wear glasses; as a matter fact, I’ve worn them since I was in 6th grade. I’m now a few decades beyond 6th grade (stop doing the mental math y’all), and I can see just as well now as I could then. Nawww, that’s a big ole lie, I can’t see a lick without assistance during all hours that do not involve sleep🙂!

Anyway, while I was putting on my contacts this morning, one of them dropped. As I retrieved and cleaned it, I started to think about the upcoming year of perfect vision (2020), and suddenly it dawned on me that that level of vision cannot be obtained without help…literally or figuratively.

I know I’m not the only one who has random thoughts at the oddest moments. This thought, however, hit me because I know that without my glasses or contacts bringing clarity to my sight, my vision would be distorted indefinitely. As a child, I knew to ask for help with my eyesight, but as an adult, it’s not always easy to ask for help with your “life’s sight”… see how I’m making up stuff (but it makes sense)…stay with me though.

Help isn’t always easy to seek or easy to ask for, and sometimes it’s not easy to receive; but to achieve some of what you want you have to set your sight on resources that go beyond what you see in the mirror; that means you may sometimes have to set your sight outside of yourself.

I am not about to talk about eyesight, although I really could tell lot of stories about losing glasses, hiding glasses, tripping without them, squinting to see, tearing contacts…the whole nine; I think it’s more fitting to talk about the manifestation of our sight which is vision…at least that’s what it is to me.

We can have vision and still be blind as to what we see. How??? In the case of our lives, we have desires and wants that we envision for ourselves, often disregarding the fact that our vision won’t materialize without comprehending what’s in the line of our sight. Simply put, the masterpiece (vision) cannot be completed without the eye (sight) of the artist.

Set your S.I.G.H.T. on the Masterpiece:

S-Step in the direction that elevates you, but remember, to walk along your path not someone else’s. Don’t be distracted by someone else’s journey. Some of us are nearsighted and some of us are farsighted, so we have to move forward or backward to give us the perspective or vantage point we need to be successful. Literally speaking, I am EXTREMELY nearsighted, I wouldn’t be able to recognize my own name an arm’s length away from me without moving closer. To apply that to life, I can’t stand still and expect to reap the benefit of my sight if I won’t move close enough to see. Some of us are big picture people and some of us are details people. Be courageous enough to align yourself with people who can see what you can’t.

I-Invite insight! Insight is essential and it comes from experiences; the good and the bad ones. Insight speaks to our intuition. Have you ever been in a situation and made a decision and at one point said “I knew it”? Listen to that voice, that gut feeling; trust yourself and your knowledge about what’s in your sight. I can only speak for myself, but I know that every time I have ignored something I knew to be true, it never worked out in my favor. Trust yourself. You know what you know, and no one can take that away from you! Second guessing yourself often puts doubt on a pedestal, and assurance under a rock. I always say pedestals are misplaced footstools… (take from that what you will😉)

G-Goals in sight, aid in foresight! (I didn’t mean to rhyme, but hey!) In order for that vision to materialize, you have to have goals in place to get there. Foresight is our ability to look a head, if you can look ahead and visualize your next step, you can plot how you’re going to get there. There was a time when I was good at that, then I became bad at it, now I’m getting better with it all over again. Life is funny…sometimes are strengths become weaknesses, and our weaknesses become strengths, all depending on the journey that life pulls us through.

H-hindsight is a haven for lessons, not storage for old wounds. We won’t even go there, because woooooo…we all have a story and at some point in time we’ve all uttered the words “hindsight is 20/20”. Embrace the lessons, but don’t resurrect the bruises. Those hindsight experiences came on a table of preparation necessary to manifest your vision. Be grateful for them and move on!

T-Take risks! We all know there’s no reward in playing it safe all the time. We can’t set our sight on the same source and expect the magnificence of our vision to reveal itself. We become unstoppable once we truly believe we cannot be stopped. You control the gas, so stop hovering over the breaks!
